Meaux Elementary School

Meaux Elementary School

I'd like to take a minute of your time and introduce you to the cozy little town of Meaux. This community was once called Harrington’s Island, then in 1919 it was renamed to Meaux. Meaux is a very small rural town located in south Louisiana near Abbeville and Maurice. Centered in the heart of the community is Meaux Elementary School, home of the Jr. Patriots. Mrs. Susan Stephen, the principal, keeps our children safe and makes sure they receive the best education available. Decorated with school pride our colors cover the halls in red, white, and blue.

Meaux Elementary School was build in 1939, however due to a devastating fire it was shutdown in 1994 and then reopened in 1995. We're a small public school with about 470 students and 55 staff members, run by the vermillion parish school board. Rated an ‘‘A’’ school our community couldn’t be prouder.
This little school is fantastic but could still use help for improvements. Meaux Elementary's playground area is seriously lacking equipment for the students. That's where “Gumbo for Meaux” comes into play. Parents of Meaux understand that teachers now more than ever have their hands full with testing, teaching, and strict guidelines. This is our way of helping our school raise enough funds to provide the students with a new playground for each and everyone of them to enjoy.

Being a small community we take great pride in our school and want to do whatever we can to help. Some of the student body's parents have come together to form what we call the "SSG", School Support Group. As a member of this group, we ask for your help and participation in this fundraiser to make it a success. All profits raised and collected are presented to Meaux Elementary School. The "Gumbo For Meaux" fundraiser is an annual event held by the SSG. We welcome old and new members of our community to contact myself or the Elementary school if you would like to volunteer your help or make a contribution to the event. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely, Mandy Menard Luquette
